world diabetes day 2022

Statistics has shown that about 6 million Nigerians have been diagnosed with diabetes and over two quarters of Nigerians remain undiagnosed

 Delta State is not left out of this numbers  and on this note,  joined the rest of the world to enlighten people on the growing burden of this disease, and strategies to prevent and manage the threat.

14th November anually has been set aside as world diabetes day  by the world Health organization.

The event marked at Federal medical Center Asaba in Delta State  by the department of internal medicine in conjunction with endocrinology  unit held  an enlightenment  campaign on complications, management and way forward at reducing the impact of diabetes on victims.

The Chairman at the event, Dr leo Erhenmuse  who was a former medical Director Federal medical centre advised on the need for  diabetes  patients to seek  expert advise for medication.

The discussant at the world diabetes day , Dr Ezechukwu Aniekwensi  and Dr Kingsley Okocha  dwelled on  management,  life style  changes and the way forward at combating diabetes

The Head of department of internal medicine Dr Francis Ugoeze  expressed appreciation to all for making the programme a success


For his part the Managing Director federal  medical centre Dr Omo Ekamemu, represented, commended the department of internal medicine of the Federal Medical Centre for educating  patients living with diabetes mellitus on how to manage and prevent the disease, as there seems to be no cure yet




The Head of opthalmology Dr Ogbedo Enrest  spoke on  the relationship between  diabetes and the eyes, and advised patients to always have their eyes checked once in 6 months or at least once a year.

 This years theme ,  "Access to diabetes care; education  to protect tomorrow, and sub theme as let's combat the silent killer highlights the importance of prevention and response to diabetes, with the use of drug , execise and taking the right diet

Everybody was advised to check their health status regularly and were educated on some of the major risk factors and  symptoms of diabetes.

The event featured panel of discussant, food Model Exhibition, free diabetes screening test and question and answer session.
