The Delta State sexual assault referral center has been  inaugurated .

The Commissioner for economic planning Dr Barry Gbe who inaugurated the centre at the Asaba Specialist hospital, said the center would provide  succour to victims of rape.

Dr Barry Gbe said the centre, would address issues of  intimidations and victimazation.

For her part the Commissioner for Women Affairs Community and Social Development Mrs Floral Alanta represented the the permanent secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Oghenekevwe Agas said victims suffers physical and psychological trauma and may need medical, legal and psychological support to enable them over come the trauma.

She noted, that the state government has deemed it fit to incorporate various bodies to look into the issues of rape with a view to curbing the the menace.

According to her ,  medical team,legal team ,security agencies, social walfare officer were inaugurated to join hand at  providing quick  responses to rape victims.

The Commissioner girl Child entrepreneurship development Mrs Nkachi Chukwura and the Commissioner for health represented by the permanent Secretary ministry of health, Dr philomia Okewo said  the Delta State Government is ready to give hope to every Girl child and ensure that  issues of rape are not swept under the carpet.

The Chief medical Director Asaba Specialist hospital Dr Peace Ighosewe said rape victims are faced with assault  and with no avenue to speak out, stressing that with the establishment of the Delta State sexual referral Centre, victims who spoke out, would get Justice.Others who spoke on the significance of the centre were representatives from the ministry of Justice, Director sexual offence Mrs Uche Akamagwuna, representative  of  the Delta State child right implementation  Committee of the state chapter, Christain Association of Nigeria Venerable Kingsley Dieli and the representative of the Nigeria police  who is the  gender desk officer,police Supre tendent  Rauta James .

The State  Secretary Nigeria Union of  Journalist  Mr Patrick Ochie gave an overview of the role of Journalist in the reportage of rape issues.

They advised on the need for rape victims  to fight against self victimization and never give up on themselves.
