The Civil Society Action Coalition Education for All (CSACEFA) has strengthened the capacity of Civil Society Organisations on budget tracking and analysis tools.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of CSACEFA and some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the Delta State Coordinator of CSACEFA, Augusta Impact Keneboh said that it was necessary to understand the education budget for the overall benefits of the people.
Keneboh said that the objective of the training of its members and the CSOs was to strengthen their capacity to be able to carry out series of policies advocacies with the government and apply what they had learnt in the training while engaging governments on issues concerning the budget for the education sector.
She stated that after the training they would engage critical stakeholders especially the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Economic Planning and the State Universal Basic Education Board to ascertain the level of the implementation of the budgetary provisions for the education sector.
The CSACEFA State Coordinator opined that government should carry Communities along, collaborate with the communities in the area of need assessment and project implementation in order to guarantee project sustainability.
Keneboh explained that there was need for more awareness creation for communities to be abreast with the budget for the education sector, adding that it was important for governments to make learning environment conducive and ,provide gender responsive ss well as infrastructural development.
She advocated gender sensitivity in project planning and implementation, stressing that in building projects such as classrooms,toilets, government should provide separate toilets for both males and females and take into cognizance persons with disabilities.
Earlier, the Executive Director of Entrepreneurial Skills Initiative for Peace and Development (ESIPND),. Dr. (Mrs) Josephine Crossolale-Ovwido stated that the essence of the the training was for them to understand budget analysis for the education sector.
On his part, the resource person, Dr. Racheal Misan-Ruppee described the budget allocation over the years at the state and national level as low and advocated for increase to meet up the international agreement and government should adopt and show commitment of 15-20% of its budget to the education sector .
Present at the training were led persons from various organisations including Afro Centre for Development, Peace and Justice (AFRODEP), Patmon Community Development Centre, Entrepreneurship Skills Initiative for Peace and Development (ESIPND).
Others were Julie Austin Foundation, Monu Olarewaju Foundation (MOF) ,Hope for All Right Initiative, FAWEN and Fit Africa Development
