The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress Delta State Council, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku ,in a press statement, condemned the incessant increment in the pump price of fuel and other refined crude products in Nigeria.
Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku also briefed journalists at the Nigeria Labour Congress Secretariat, Asaba, Delta State.
The NLC Chairman noted that the incessant increment of the prices of refined crude products particularly petrol was an unnecessary infliction of suffering on the common man especially the workers whose salaries are fixed, adding that workers in the State could no longer afford such pains due to their poor remunerations.
He noted that the removal of the fuel subsidy has triggered the cost of goods and services which includes transportation cost and other basic needs.
Comrade Ofobruku called on the Federal Government to handle the situation at hand expeditiously and put an end to the suffering of vulnerable Nigerians
He also Urged on Delta State Government to as a matter of urgency put measures in place to alleviate the sufferings of workers in the State
He said such measures should include tax reduction, increase in basic salaries, transport and other utilities allowances, provision of buses for transport at subsidized rate.
Comrade Ofobruku pointed out that if immediate action was not taken the situation may get out of hand as stressing that "A hungry man is an angry man".
The State NLC Chairman appealed to workers to be patient and continue to do their jobs while expecting the government to remedy the situation of things as soon as possible.
