The Delta State LIFE - ND project, in collaboration with the federal government is set to build the capacity and support base for women farmers with a view to curbing inequality and gender disparity in the farming Operation.
The LIFE - ND Delta State project coordinator Mr Collins Ashoro Stated this at problem solving Symposium organizated for Women in Agricultural held in Asaba, aimed at the "Establishment of women in Agriculture network in the Niger Delta"
Mr Ashoro who was represented by the Rural institute, Gender and Youth Officer Mrs Paula Omare admonished the women to take the programme seriously and put every knowledge gain to use
She advised them to improve their knowledge with a view to achieving expected goals, in their different Agricultural field
The Resource person, Rural institute, Youth and Gender Co Ordinator Mr Clement Umen Uwem who Spoke on problem faced by women in the agricultural sector stressed the need for Agriculture networking, where farmer would be advised on professional best practices
According to him, advocacy programmes in Agriculture could influence policies that could address key challenges in farming Operations
Mr Uwem advised them to apply bio technology in enhancing productivity and frowned against unfair practices and lack of access to market, due to the inabilities of Women farmers to access proper networking.
He said Women in Agriculture network should form groups or Associate with Ngo, research institute, for advocacy and must identify goals and objectives to improve their operation
The President of the Women in Agriculture network, Mrs Fedelia Eze Owenz and other members of the body stated their challenges to include bribery of police officers, gender inequality in land allocation, training and finance among other issues,
