The Principal of West End Mixed Secondary School, Mrs. Augusta Ogeah has stressed the need for students to embrace reading culture and urged government to establish well equip libraries in schools.
Mrs. Ogeah, who made the call in Asaba while been interviewed on a Delta Radio programme titled Radio Guest, in Asaba the Delta State Capital
She said reading culture had dropped among students, compared to what it was in past years
She urged teachers to show more commitment and passion to teaching in order to impact positively on pupils and Students adding that parents should encourage their wards to embrace reading culture for their own good .
Mrs. Ogeah called on students to shun social vices and other acts, capable of jeopardising their future.
The Principal said that Delta State Government had continued to prioritise the welfare of teachers and reminded them that their rewards were being enjoyed here on earth.
Mrs. Ogeah explained that the basic education system had so many advantages, stressing that the system was classified into two stages such as the primary education and the junior level of secondary education .
She noted that the old system of education was just all about testing the cognitive domain of the child while the new existing system encompassed pre vocational education where the learners could be exposed to skill acquisition for self reliance.
She lauded the administration of the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the establishment of Technical Colleges in State where vocational skills were being taught.
Mrs. Ogeah emphasised the urgent need for the State Government to employ more teachers for secondary schools.
She commended the immediate past Commissioner for Secondary Education in the State, Mrs. Rose Ezewu for her contributions to the development of the education sector.
