OGHORO IDENTIFIES USE OF PHONES AMONG CHILDREN, FACTORS MILITAITING AGAINST READING CULTURE

The Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro has identified technical innovations, especially access to use of phones by the children as one of the factors militaiting against  reading culture among them.


Oghoro stated this in  Ogume, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State while speaking to newsmen at the sidelines of the burial ceremony late Ogene Theresa Ogbuiji Ossai Ojumah,mother of the Director of Agency for Adults and Non-Formal Education Board, Comrade Ernest Ossai.


He advised children to abstain from unnecessary use of phones but concentrate on their studies in order to achieve excellent performance in examination.

Oghoro reiterated the Ministry's determination to ensure timely  release of  results after every examinations including the Cognitive/Placement and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) .

The PS said that the administration of former Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa had recorded giant strides in the education sector, adding that Honourable Oborevwori's administration has also demonstrated its readiness to do more.

Oghoro, however, described Comrade Ossai as one of the formidable Directors in the Ministry, stressing that he had effectively managed the Agency for Adults and Non-Formal Education Board effectively .

He said that the deceased lived a fulfilled life and enjoined Comrade Ossai and other family members to sustain the legacies of their late mother.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) , Comrade Titus Okolie, who decried the low level of reading culture among students, called for collective efforts among stakeholders to address the issue.
He said that life was not all about the number of years lives but the years lived well and  described Comrade Ossai as  a jolly good fellow.

Earlier, the Director of Examination and Standard, Mrs. Ojumah Clementina stated that the deceased lived a life worthy of emulation and inculcated strong moral values on her children and described Comrade Ossai as an asset to the Ministry.

Responding, Comrade Ossai explained that their mother brought togetherness and unity among her Children and added that  she ensured that they acquired basic education .

He thanked friends and well wishers for identifying with them and pledged to sustain the existing love , peace and unity in the family as well as sustain the legacies of their mother.
