DESOPADEC: Itsekiri Nation ends protest

The peaceful protest by  Itsekiri sons and daughters, (Itsekiri General Assembly )at DESOPADEC has been called off by the Ologbotsere of Warri kingdom, Chief (Engr)Oma Eyewuoma 

The over one week peaceful protest by the Itsekiri sons and daughters worldwide kicked start  at the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission  ( NUPRC,) Nigeria National Petroleum Corperation (NNPC),Zonal Office Warri demanding for the  implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA)on the directive of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR and then  proceeded  to the  Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission DESOPADEC.


The protesters who were seen displaying different placards,.with different inscriptions called  for accountability while  demanded for the Itsekiri Nation's  entitlement from the era of the former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori. 



Chief Omolubi Nenewumi,who spoke on behalf of the Ologbotsere, 
Chief (Engr) Oma Eyewuoma thanked the protesters for their resilience, commitment and sacrifices. 
 

He said, calling off the protest became necessary based on the intervention by the state governor, Rt.Hon.Sheriff.Oborevwore and the intervention by the esteem m royal monarch of Warri kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III)CFR)


According to him,  the Itsekiri nation holds their monarch in very high esteem and whatever pronouncement from him is final and they cannot contravene his  decisions hence, the need  vacate the DESOPADEC premises because the king's proclamation is law. 

Chief Eyewuoma called on  the state Government to endeavour to pay   the benefits of Iwere land into an  authorized Iwere account and not to any individual or group of people. 
He emphasized that, all  Oil Producing Producing Areas in the state should get what is rightfully theirs.
