Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, has hinted of the state government resolve to carry out proper revalidation of all primary schools in the state.
Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu disclosed this in Asaba during a meeting with the Chief Inspectors of Education and the Secretaries of the Local Government Education Authority .
Flanked at the meeting by the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro and the Permanent Secretary in the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Mr. Byron Unini, the Commissioner said that the stakeholders must continue to put in their best for the overall development of the primary education sector.
Dr. Ashibogwu charged them to abstain from acts capable of truncating the determined efforts of Governor Oborevwori led administration in sanitising the education system in the state.
He called on teachers to extend the measure of attention they usually offered to their biological children to the learners in their care, saying that the children spent more time with their teachers in the school than with their parents at home.
Dr. Ashibogwu said that there should be robust working relationship between the CIEs and LGEA secretaries, reminding them to see themselves as partners in the development of the primary education.
The Commissioner noted that the education management information system must brace up to their responsibilities of providing accurate data of the number of primary schools and pupils in domains
Dr. Ashibogwu, who , however, warned against unauthorised collection of levies, said that the State Government would deal decisively with any teacher or officials of the Ministry and the board found wanting in accordance with the extant rule of the civil service and reminded them that such nefarious acts could jeopardise their integrity.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro informed the CIEs and Secretaries of the Local Government Education Authority that that the the Commissioner for Primary Education called for the meeting to brainstorm on the way forward for the education system.
Oghoro said that as stakeholders in the education industry, they should always ensure that quality service was delivered at all times.
He recalled that when the Commissioner for Primary Education assumed office, he clearly assured of his readiness to carry everybody along in the scheme of things for the advancement of the primary education system.
Oghoro urged the CIEs and LGEA secretaries to always furnish the Ministry with the needed information as the liaison officers at the grassroots, stressing that they were key players in the education system.
Responding to some of the issues raised by the CIEs and LGEA secretaries, the Permanent Secretary in the State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Byron Unini stressed on the need for active existence of the School Based Management Committee in the Local Government Areas for them to enlighten the communities to own the schools in their areas as a deliberate measure to curb vandalism in schools.
