Enforcement team of Nigeria NIPOST Exercise 25 September 2023 sealed eight Courier and Logistics operators and arrested the operators for allegedly operating unlicensed and illegal courier business in Asaba, Delta State.
The enforcement team which consists of NIPOST officials and logistics Regulatory department and armed Police officers stormed Asaba, the State capital at about 9:20am to seal the courier offices.
Addressing Journalists shortly after the clampdown exercise, NIPOST General Manager, Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department ( CLRD), Shonde Gideon said they were arrested for "operating their businesses without obtaining a grant of operating license from NIPOST as stipulated by the extant laws".
Gideon expressed disappointment as many courier operators openly engaged in unlicensed/ illegal Courier and Logistics operators with reckless abandoned for ethical standard and professional conduct.
Others, he hinted, involved in "postal, express courier and logistics proliferation and infiltration as well as unethical sharp practices such as price undercutting, broaching, damages, loss and dumping of customers items, poaching and subletting of operating license with mountain of public complains about customer's being duped or obtaining money from them under false pretenses, with no traceable office address nor registered brand name"
To the NIPOST GM, the activities of courier operators is not only a guff but also a serious menace to the Postal industry, portraying a negative image of the country.
Following the development, Gideon advised "any interested private investors in Courier and Logistics business to follow due process by obtaining a grant of operating licenses from federal government", noting that no one has right to operate illegal Courier and Logistics business, nation wide.
