To ensure all projects in Delta State meet the necessary standards and quality, the Directorate of Project Monitoring/Audit on Thursday inspected some projects at the state capital, Asaba.
The projects inspected are the completed Liberty Estate road, Otu-Ogwu Street, and the completed Model Technical College, Asaba.
Speaking during the inspection, the Special adviser to the governor on projects monitoring/audit Engr. Goodnews Agbi noted that one of the projects that is under construction which is Oto-Ogwu Street, Asaba, has no equipment or personnels on site.
For the Model Technical College, Asaba, he commended the contractor for doing a very good job, however for one year, the students have not used the state-of-the-art equipment to capacity in all the laboratories and worshops as a result of lack of electricity.
"The equipment in all the laboratories are brand new but they are not being put to use because of the electricity problem, that very soon they will all get rust especially the lathe and fabrication machines" he stated.
He therefore appealed to the contractor and the awarding ministry to ensure they connect the Model Technical College to the national grid immediately so that machines can be used by the students in the laboratories and workshops effectively.
He stated that one of the completed project inspected the Liberty-Estate Road was not properly cambered as a result there is water logged in some portions of the road which he noted will cause the road not to stand the test of time. while the Oto-Ogwu street is still under construction.
He also predicted that in the next rainy season, potholes would start appearing on the Liberty Estate road, he advised contractors to always construct roads to specifications, drawing,s and designs.
According to him "The monitoring of projects in the state is going to be a continuous exercise that we are going to embark on.
Responding during the inspection at Model Technical College, Asaba, the Assistant Director, Planning, Research and Statistics Mr. Ate Oghenero stated that, the Model Technical College, Asaba is fully completed and commissioned by the Delta State government, stating that the only challenge they have is on how to connect the school to the national grid to ensure the school has electricity supply.
Dr. Agbi was accompanied for the inspection of the projects by the Permanent Secretary of Project Monitoring/Audit Mrs. Patricia Esejo, Mrs. Ebitomo Director of Project Monitoring/Audit, Mr. Charlse Onahor Director of Planning Research and Statistics, also the Executive Assistant to the governor Mr. Sese Omu, Mr. Onome Christian Amori, Senior Special Assistant to the governor, Pst. Kenneth Otuye, Mr. Ikere Victor, Engr. Eduvie Larry Efekodha, Engr. Tebowei Emmanuel, Surveyor Andrew Obiazi, Comrade Odio Odafe special assistant to the special adviser to the governor on Project monitoring/audit. Others are; Engr. Joseph Mukoro, Engr. Donwa Obatarhe and Engr. Alumona Chris Chukwudi.
