DTSG Partners Donor Agencies, Promises Provision of Potable Water Supply and Sanitation Facilities.

As part of activities to ensure sustainable access to potable water for Deltans and residents, a delegation from the World Bank and the Federal Programme Implementation Unit, of the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (SURWASH) has visited the State.

 

The delegation which was on a five days mission in the State were received by the Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Dr. Tosan Wilkie on behalf of the State government in his office in Asaba

The Commissioner assured the delegation of the State Government’s readiness to partner with donor agencies with a view to improve access to potable water for residents across the State.

The Team Lead, Ms. Judith Warmate, Snr. Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist, World Bank said the Team is not out to find fault but to have honest conversations with participating State and that States are expected to take advantage of the Mission to learn and improve on efforts to make water available for residents in the various States.  

In his address to the participants during the interactive session, Engr. Abudulhamid Guaram, National Programme Coordinator, SURWASH said the essence of the Mission was to assess grounds covered by States, hear challenges being encountered by them with a view to proffer solutions on how to surmount the identified challenges and ensure residents get potable water.

The Mission allowed for field visits where participants visited the SURWASH sub-project sites such as the water schemes and sanitation facilities at Ogbe-Ogume Grammar School, Olie Primary School and the Market all in Ogbe- Ogume in Ndokwa West LGA.

Participants included officers of various Government Agencies in the water sector from Delta, Ekiti, Imo and Abuja.

The participants also included participating SURWASH sister States; Ekiti, Imo and officers of various Government Agencies in the water sector in an effort to improve peer learning and share lessons learnt so far in the course of implementation of the Programme.
