SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS : DTSG GETS COMMENDATIONS FOR CONSISTENT, TIMELY GENERATION OF TEST ITEMS

Delta State Government (DTSG) has been commended for the consistent and timely generation of test items for school examinations in the state.

A Professor of Educational Measurement and Evaluation, Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. John Odili, and Dr. Godwin Edozie, an education strategist, gave the commendation in Asaba during the Generation of Test Items for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination in the state.


The duo made  presentations on guidelines for generation of test items and new subject thematic area.

They underscored the importance of test item generation, noting that participants at the workshop should show dedication while writing test items for the state.

The two renowned academics noted that before now, the school curriculum was overloaded, adding that there must be a connection between the curriculum and the  test items generated.

Prof. Odili particularly asserted that the standardised test items were different from the teachers main test and urged teachers to generate test items while teaching.

Earlier, the  Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu,  said the workshop was aimed at generating test items  to measure teaching and learning outcomes and adhere to outlines, provided in the school curriculum.

Ezewu added that the workshop was designed to create a unique forum for teachers with cognate experience in their subject areas to review the past evaluation instruments with a view to generating new ones to enrich the question bank 

In her welcome address, the Director of Examination in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mrs. Cecelia Eguriase stated that the workshop on generation of test items was for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination in the state.

Mrs. Eguriase  stated that the workshop on generation of test items was organised every year, saying that during the exercise, teachers that were specialists in different subjects were expected to set valid and reliable test items from the schemes of work to enrich the question bank for future Basic Education Certificate Examination.
