Delta State Government (DTSG), has been called upon to embrace Princeton Akpojaro's 10kilometres road race for secondary school students, adults and civil servants by partnering with the sponsor of the race in order to widen its scope to cover all the Local Government Areas for the benefits of the state.
The sponsor/organizer of Princeton Akpojaro's 10 Kilometers road race , Mr. Princeton Akpojaro made the call in Asaba while speaking to journalists shortly after the race .
Akpojaro said that there would be more participants in the 10 Kilometers running whenever there was collaboration especially from the state government, adding that by so doing the race could be organized in all the LGAs .
He stated that the purpose of organizing the annual 10 Kilometers race was to encourage the culture of long distance running among the children at the grassroots particularly at the secondary school level, stressing that his ambition was to keep growing them .
Akpojaro , who stated that the 2024 edition of the 10 Kilometers road race was the 4th edition of the race in Asaba while the 5th edition for Ughelli was held recently.
While saying that the benefits of participating in the 10 Kilometers running was quite enormous, Akpojaro noted that outside the best three runners for adults, civil servants and Secondary Schools as well as their school and their schools in the various categories going home with cash prizes of N100,000 and N50,000 respectively, the 10 Kilometers running would help to improve their health, mental and physical well-being.
On his part, the visibly elated Principal of Okpanam High School, whose students emerged overall best by taking the first position in the male and female categories for secondary schools, attributed the victory of his school to effective preparation just as he urged the sponsor/organiser of the race to sustain the gesture.
In an interview, the winner for the first position for the civil servants category, Mr. Danjuma Gyang from the State Sports Council, James Gyang Boyi who took the first position for the adults category and David Gyang Boyi who also clinched the second position in the same adults category, commended the Princeton Akpojaro for the initiative.
They described the 10 Kilometers road race as a welcome development, explaining that their had been training for the event and thanked God for their success in the race.
Speaking further, Danjuma and David Gyang Boyi stated that their ambition was to improve on their talents and participate in national and international competition.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of cheques of N100, 000, N50,000 respectively to the best three in the various categories ranging from the adults, civil servants and secondary school students to the civil servants as well as same amount to the best three schools whose students emerged overall best three in the race .
