Delta State Government (DTSG) , has described science as the bedrock of societal growth and development.
The Director of Science Education in the State Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education, Pst. Mrs. Hope Igumbor stated this at the Government Model Secondary School, Asaba during the preliminary stage of the Science Competition/Exhibition organised by the state government for learners in both public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.
Pst. Mrs. Igumbor, who represented the State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu and his counterpart in charge of Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, said that the competition was being conducted by the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education simultaneously across the State.
She said that the best three I'm each of the categories from the various Local Government Areas would be selected for the state final in a week's time , adding that after the state finals there would be exhibition and award of prizes to the overall best in the competition in each of the categories.
Pst. Mrs. Igumbor underscored the importance of the science competition in the human capital development of the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori led administration, stressing that there was need to encourage the children to have interest in science subjects from the primary school through the secondary school level.
She said that for the society to get it right for the future leaders, there was need to prioritize science education and science subjects in the schools .
In an interview with newsmen, the Vice Principal (Special Duties) , Lady Roseline Isioma Abojei said that the science competition was a welcome innovation , noting that it would go along way in enhancing the academic excellence of the children.
Abojei also stated that science would play a critical role in addressing the economic would foster economic growth in the country and reduce the prevailing hunger and poverty Nigerians were facing.
Some of the learners who spoke commended the state government for the gesture, adding that the competition would contribute to their academic well being.
