Delta State Government (DTSG) , has organized the second stage of the Science Competition and exhibition for public and private primary and secondary schools in the state with a call on participants to put in their best so as to boost their performances in the competition and stand a chance to make it to the final stage .
The State Director of Science Education in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Pastor (Mrs.) Hope Igumbor stated this in Asaba during the conduct of the second stage of the competition, held at the Government Model Secondary School, Asaba.
She said that the competition was organized annually by the Ministry to enhance learners ' interest in science subjects.
Pastor (Mrs.) Igumbor, who explained that the science competition was geared towards encouraging academic competitiveness among pupils and students, noted that the best three at the end of the competition would be rewarded for their performances.
Meanwhile, a Senior Research Fellow with the National Mathematical Centre , Abuja, Dr. Mark Modebei has commended Delta State for the massive participation of its students in the second round of Olympiad competition that coincided with the conduct of the state finals of the science competition.
Speaking to journalists in Asaba, shortly after monitoring the conduct of the second round of the Olympiad competition, Dr. Modebei said that the best performing students at the state level in each of the eight subjects would qualify for the third round to be organized in Abuja.
Dr. Modebei stated that the third round would comprise students from different states, stressing that they would undergo two weeks training in Abuja where they would be accomodated and taken proper care of before they could seat for the third round test of the competition.
He further disclosed that the best 3 candidates at the national level would represent Nigeria at the international stage of the competition.
