The Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensure that every pregnancy is safe, every child birth is attended to by skilled professionals, and every child has the opportunity to thrive and fulfil their potential.
Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Wife of the Delta State Governor made this known yesterday in Asaba during the first quarter meeting of the State Steering Committee on Maternal, Perinatal and Child Death Surveillance and Response.
Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Wife of the Delta State Governor, represented by Mrs. Emmy Nwobi, Wife of the Majority Leader, Delta State House of Assembly, Emeka Nwobi called on all to recommit selves to the noble cause of saving lives and building a brighter future for the mothers, newborns, and children of Delta State.
“I am committed to leveraging my role as Her Excellency, the Wife of the Governor, to advocate for increased investment in maternal and child health, improved access to quality healthcare services, and enhanced support for vulnerable populations, including adolescent girls, pregnant women, and newborns” the First Lady disclosed.
In his welcome remark, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, who doubles as the Chairman, State Steering Committee on Maternal, Perinatal and Child Death Surveillance and Response said that deaths from complications arising from pregnancy or childbirth in the State is high and one of the measures to address it is through this Committee.
The Commissioner who was represented by Dr. Roy Maduka, First Co-Chairman, State Steering Committee on Maternal, Perinatal and Child Death Surveillance and Response commended the efforts of those at the front line in fight against high rate of maternal and child deaths in the State.
“Our gathering today is not merely a routine meeting but a dedicated forum where our commitment to enhancing Maternal Health in Delta State takes center stage. The issues we are gathered to deliberate upon are of profound importance, touching the lives of countless mothers and infants across our State, and the collaborative efforts of this esteemed committee will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of Maternal Health outcomes” the Commissioner stated.
In his presentation, Dr. Maduka, Consultant Obstetrician disclosed that the objective of the meeting was to ensure that the next mother, child, newborn and even child in the womb does not die needlessly hence the need for the provision of quality care at the health facilities void of delays.
