The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education has commenced it's legislative duties, to ascertain the level of commitment to quality service delivery in the education sector
The Chairman, Committee, on education Honourable Charles Emetulu, said the State Assembly expects nothing but excellence in the education sector.
According to him, the visitation to establishments was part of its legislative oversight to ascertain the level of commitment to quality service delivery.
Honourable Emetulu, fanked by the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Chief Benson Obire, and other members, were at the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, College of Education Mosogar and College of Education, Warri.
The Honourable member , represents Ndokwa West in the House, said oversight duty was a constitutional responsibility of the legislature which empowers its committees to carry out it oversight functions on financial appropriations made to the various Ministries, Departments Agencies and MDAs.
The Lawmaker while commending the removal of bureaucratic bottlenecks in school administration urged the authorities to be innovative, and create an alternative means of funding instead of depending solely on government.to enable higher institutions managed between the management of the school and government.
Honourable Emetulu said he was very impressed with the institutions, most especially in the area of projects executions with internally generated revenue as well as meeting the TETfund requirements to attract projects from the intervention body.
Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Johnbull Tonukeri commended the Legislators for the oversight function .While stating that the Ministry has made provisions for accreditations of courses in the various institutions and also address the issue of shortage of staff.
Rector, Delta State Polythenic Otefe-Oghara, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, appealed to the Committee to assist on the completion of abandoned projects in the institution and release of funds for accreditations of some programmes.
The Provost of College of Education Mosogar, Dr Israel Emide and that of College of Education Warri, Dr Dickson Oyovwe, appealed for domestication of the dual mode programme as applicable at federal level to enable the institutions award both NCE certificate and degrees.
