The Nigeria Army has reiterated its effort to combat Crime with a view to putting away unnecessary fear and threats on the lives of law abiding Citizens of Nigeria
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, gave the remark at the Army quarterly Civil Media Chat held in Asaba, the Delta State Capital.
He called on journalist to refrain from amplifying the activities of terrorists, insurgent and other undesirable activities of hoodlums in the society.
Speaking on the Theme of the media chat "Imperatives of the Military - Media Partnership for the Attainment of National Security", Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja stressed the need for both Military and Media to collaborate and work for the security and safety of Nigerians.
The chief of Army Staff, who spoke through Lt General Jamal Abdussalam. Said recognizing the enormous impact of the Media , the Army and the Public, there was need to provide essential information to shaping public opinion.
According to him, the media chat was to create a conducive environment for dialogue between the Nigerian Army and media practitioners, to facilitate and exchange valuable information and ideas for the mutual benefit of all.
He said: Nigerian Army is striving to deliver on its constitutional mandate, therefore the media should also uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy, impartiality and patriotism by ensuring that their reports contribute positively to national security
He stressed the need to harness the power of communication in view of promoting peace, unity and resilience in the face of adversity while he also stressed the need to focus on interconnectivity as collective security depends on the ability to work together effectively and harmoniously.
Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, said the military and media chat offered a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between the two parties and to foster mutual understanding between parties involved in peace building mechanism.
The Chief of military affairs added that the Army had implemented measures to boost professionalism among its troops which includes thorough training, workshops and sensitizations for troops as well as the provision of necessary equipment for operational enablement
On his part, The Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, said in this era of complex security challenges, the synergy between the military and media is indispe spendable
