A one day virtual capacity building training has been organized for female Journalists in the South South Zone of Nigeria
The training was put in place by the Vice President South South Zone of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ. Comrade Stella Macaulay , in collaboration with IHP Consulting Services.
The facilitator IHP Consulting Services Dr Mercy Bello Abu who dwelled on the topic Titled "lmproving Personal Effectiveness and Developing Lleadership within" said it has a lot to do with critical thinking and the ability to solve problems.
She stated that personal effectiveness consists of several factors to include Self determination, confidence,persistence,stress management, problem solving skills, creativity and generating ideas that would promote professionalism.
According to the facilitator, to improve personal effectiveness there was need for time management, goal setting, and discipline on the part of the individual.
Dr Abu noted that the key factor responsible for the improvement of personal intelligence was emotional intelligence which helps in management of personal emotions and the emotions of others.
While calling on female Journalists, to build effective communication skills, be assertive , be a good listener and ensure effective communication skills.
She stressed the need for members to be open to constructive criticism and be proactive in asking questions during fact finding information.
For her part the Vice President South South Zone Nigeria Association of Women Journalist NAWOJ Comrade Stella Macaulay said the training was in partnership with IHP Consulting Services Limited and was an opportunity to empower female journalists with valuable skills.
She highlighted the importance of personal effectiveness and leadership development as that skill that would enabling journalists excel in their profession and make meaningful contribute to society.
