A two storey Mall in Delta State has been gutted by fire

MULTI million naira investments has been destroyed in Asaba, Delta State capital as a gigantic business mall was engulfed by fire. On Saturday 26 May 2024. The mall, a two storey building located opposite the Delta State House of Assembly along Okpannam road, houses the popular Cartage Cinemas, a sporting lounge, event centre, furniture show room and other businesses. Though the cause of the fire could not be ascertained as at the time of coverage, sources said the incident stated from the first floor of the mall known as Imperial Mall at about 9 in the morning. Some sympathizers who thronged the scene broke down in tears as fire fighters from the Federal and State fire services, officials of the State Emergency Management Agency and Red Cross battled to put out the fire. Director of the Delta State Fire Service, Mr. Eugene Oziwelle, said four trucks had been dispatched to curtail the fire, adding that he cannot ascertain the cause of the incident. He said due to padded walls, there was difficulty to access the seat of the fire At the time of filing this report, efforts were still being made to put out the fire.
