The Principal of Osadenis Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, Mrs. Patience Ngozi Aguonye has described games as essential part of the school co-curricular activities provided for physical well-being of students.
Mrs. Aguonye stated this in Asaba during the 47th Annual Inter-House Sports Athletics Competition of her school , held at the school sports ground.
She said that , for that reason the Ministry of Education in line with the National Policy on Education ensured that sports activities were organized not only within the school but among colleges within and outside the locality.
Mrs. Aguonye stated that extracurricular activities and sports taught students many important life lessons such as discipline, focus, dedication, hard work, commitment and team work.
She asserted that the Inter-House Sports Athletics Competition would help to build the intellectual ability and physical aptitude of students as well as assist in talent discovery that would enable some of the students to take up career in sports.
The Principal noted that the school had printed the names that some of her students including Peter Ejiro, Chukwuma Faith and Daniel Precious who participated in a game in Calabar for wining medals and other gift items for the school.
She commended the state government, the school Old Boys Association and the Patent Teachers Associations (PTA) for their unwavering commitment I'm creating enabling environment for schools in the state.
While saying that some of their buildings , power supplies, toilets for staff and white boards had been burgled by Criminals, Mrs. Aguonye appealed for financial assistance to enable the school carry out the repairs and renovation of their fallen fence , toilets for staff and students.
Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of the Delta State Bureau for Pensions and the Patron of Green House , Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje said that the education of a child needed to be balanced with morals, physical and mental upbringing of the child in order to ensure an holistic package for better upbringing of the child and called on parents to always ensure proper disciplining of the children.
Represented by the Director of Administration in the State Ministry of Environment, Mr. Anthony Usenu , Sir Ogidi-Gbegbaje stated that stressed the need for well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to assist in complementing government's efforts in the development of school infrastructure as well as sporting activities in schools.
Earlier in his his address, the Chairman of the occasion, Comrade Gerald Omezi , who is an old student of the school, 1978 set said that the event was not only to showcase athletic abilities it the students but also to foster a sense of unity and pride within the school community.
He urged the students to compete with passion, respect and teamwork, adding that it was not all about winning but about the values they would exhibit in and off the field.
At the end of the competition, Purple House emerged overall winner.
