The Delta State Chairman of a Civil Society Organization on malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Pastor Greg Sifo, has called for consistent synergy and collaborative efforts by well meaning individuals in the society to intervene in the health sector so as to enhance health care service delivery.
Pst. Sifo made the call during a -one day workshop to develop engagement plan for community engagement and strategic initiative project, organized by ACOMIN for civil society organizations in the state.
He said that the essence of gesture was to articulate strategic measures aimed at supporting the primary health care centres, adding that ACOMIN has a model designed to encourage people to see how they could contribute their quota towards sustaining government health facilities in their areas.
Pst. Sifo, who stated that the project was sponsored by the global fund , noted that it was a community led monitoring initiative working in five local government areas in the state including Oshimili South, Oshimili North, Udu, Uvwie and Warri South.
He further explained that currently, the project was intervening in Umuonaje Primary Health Centre, Asaba , stressing that timeline for the ACOMIN project was December, 2024.
He reminded them that everyone had a role to play in ensuring that sensitizing the people to embrace the initiative, saying that the focus of the project was to advocate for community ownership of the Primary Health Centre in their domain.
In their separate goodwill messages, a Director in the State Ministry of Health, Solomon Aduraosi , the head of , Redeemed Christian Church, Pst. Ronke Olaiton and the Officer in Charge ( OIC) , Umuonaje Primary Health Centre, Fidelis Okafor said that there should be need assessment in determining the project in health centres that should be embarked upon .
Speaking further, Okafor said that Umuonaje heath centre was in dire need of drugs and water .
While calling for adequate sensitization of people to desist from unnecessary discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS , they pledged to intensity collaboration with ACOMIN with a view to changing the narrative in the health sector.
Pst. Olaiton , specifically explained that their church often carried out medical outreach to provide drugs and treatment to people and educational support to the less privilege as part of the church christian social responsibility, noting that they interact with communities to affect lives as much as they could.
She said that they educate the people through their various church programmes on the need for them to embrace regular check up and stated that the people were becoming more aware of the importance of accessing health facilities.
