Community ownership of Primary Healthcare Centres(PHC) and their contribution has been described as key in improving the health care delivery system.
The Delta State Programme Officer, a Civil Society Organization on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Juliet Obiajulu stated this during the August coordination meeting of ATM/ACOMIN under the C19RM project
Obiajulu stated that the meeting was a platform where the organization interfaced with their partners in the state including representatives of Ministry of Health , the Delta State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the State Agency for the Control of AIDS(SACA) to review their activities and that of their Community Based Organisations (CBOs) for the month as well as well information sharing among them .
She said that there was increase in the patronage of primary health centres in recent times by those seeking for the services of the health care workers, adding that people could access treatment for minor ailments .
Obiajulu stated that the impact of ACOMIN project in the state was massive and disclosed that they had recorded 12 success stories in the past two months, saying that some communities in the 5 local government areas where they were implementing the project had done one thing or the other to improve the health facilities in their areas.
In his welcome address, the State Chairman of ACOMIN, Pastor Greg Sifo called on CBOs to embrace positive attitudinal change in handling their assignments for the overall benefits of the project and reminded them that their responsibility in their various facilities was to make health service providers accountable
Pastor Sifo, who advised CBOs the to strengthen their engagement with the community lead monitoring team because according to him , the project was performance based, urged them to brace up for sustainability plan for the project.
Earlier , the representative of SACA, Mrs. Grace Sifo told the CBOs that the State was preaching integration of all health talks in any medical outreach , adding that there was need for feedback from the health facilities that the CBOs were working.
In her lecture presentation, she spoke on ways of contracting HIV/AIDS and the preventive measures.
The representative of Delta State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Eboka and his counterpart from Ministry of Health, Dr (Mrs.) Julie Aniah said that the Ministry of Health and the agency were partnership with ACOMIN to ensure effective health care delivery at the grassroots.
Other partners who presented goodwill messages were Mr. Franklyn Onyeukwu representing the TB State Chairperson and Mr. Christopher Ogberetitinor of NEPWHAN.
