Community Based Organisations under a civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) have been charged to carry out their responsibility with greater commitment.
The State chairman of ACOMIN, Pastor Greg Sifo and the State Programme Officer of the organization, Sir Austen Uwede gave the charge in Asaba during their September monthly coordination meeting with implementing CBOs and partners.
They told the CBOs that ACOMIN project intervention was performance based hence they should redouble their efforts so as to get results and reminded them that the objective of ACOMIN was to evolve collaborative measures to improve on the health care delivery in various health facilities of intervention.
While urging them to always turn up quality reports on the program, Pastor Sifo emphasised the need for them to strengthen their capacity for greater productivity.
Speaking further, Sir Uwede said the essence of the meeting was to review their activities in the past one month, evaluate their challenges and the success recorded as well as take critical look at the way they were able to overcome their challenges.
Sir Uwede stated that ACOMIN project was already bringing changes to the communities they were intervening, adding that he had visited 20 facilities for validation in the past week.
He disclosed that ACOMIN has been given approval to take the intervention to secondary health facilities in the local government areas where they were working.
In their separate remarks, the Delta State Malaria Programme Manager, Ministry of Health , Dr. (Mrs.) Julie Aniah and Social Behaviour Change Advisor(SBC) , Society for Family Health, Mrs. Mercy Momoh , stated that health officers should follow their manuals religiously, they enjoined patients to also adhere to instructions of the health officers.
Dr.(Mrs) Aniah said that malaria drugs should be stored away from sunlight and stressed that there should be need for people to drink enough water , sleep well , eat good food and rest for the sake of their health even as Mrs. Momoh pledged more collaboration with ACOMIN.
She stated that malaria was gradually phasing out in the state but noted that there was need to do more just as she hinted that the state would carry out Insecticide Treated Nets (ITN) campaign in the first quarter of 2025 while a micro planning would hold next week in the state to map out plans for the ITN campaign.
