COMM. PENAWOU INSPECT PROJECTS IN OSHIMLI NORTH LOCAL GOVT. AREA

Commissioner Kalamana Penawou of the Directorate of Local Government Affairs recently embarked on a project inspection tour in Oshimili North Local Government Area to assess the progress of various structural projects initiated by the council. Accompanied by key stakeholders, including the council chairman, local PDP chairman, supervisory councillor, and press secretary to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the commissioner visited several project sites.

The inspection covered the Ugbolu market project, the ultra-modern primary healthcare center in Okpanam, and road reconstruction and rehabilitation works in Ibusa. During the tour, Commissioner Penawou emphasized the importance of adhering to the Bill of Quantities and avoiding substandard work. He expressed concerns about the delayed completion of the Ugbolu market project, which began in 2022, and urged the contractor to address observed defects before commissioning.

In contrast, the commissioner commended the contracting firm handling the Okpanam primary healthcare center and Ibusa road rehabilitation projects for their good work and encouraged them to maintain high standards. Oshimili North Local Government Council Chairman Innocent Esewezie criticized the Ugbolu market project contractor for unfulfilled promises and requested a new completion deadline.

The managing director of Maduiriel Shalom Global, Chukwudi Nwosu, attributed funding constraints to the delayed Ugbolu market project completion and promised to finish the 250 shops by December. Engr. Chibueze of Luthermario Construction Ltd highlighted their community-based partnership approach and commitment to safety measures in executing the primary healthcare center and road rehabilitation projects.

The  tour was concluded with the presentation of plaques to Commissioner Penawou and Chairman Esewezie.
