The Delta State Government, has commended the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), for supporting the State Primary Health Care Development Agency for their efforts towards improving the healthcare delivery system in the state.
The Executive Director, Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Yinkore Paul gave the commendation in Asaba during the September monthly coordination meeting of ATM/ACOMIN under C19RM RSSH project.
Dr. Paul noted that government alone can not do it all, hence the need for partnership support, adding that the state government is committed to providing accessible and affordable health care delivery.
He also lauded the Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and the ACOMIN project in particular for their strategic role in promoting community participation in the primary Healthcare Centres.
While describing the CBOs as the link between the communitie and his agency, Dr. Paul stated that what the CBOs were doing in communities where ACOMIN is intervening is in tandem with the objective of Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency.
Earlier, the State Programme Officer for ATM/ACOMIN under C19RM RSSH project, Juliet Obiajulu said that the monthly coordination meeting is a platform where they interface with the engaged CBOs to get first hand information from them which according to her, would form part of their advocacy message during their meetings with stakeholders.
Obiajulu stated that the monthly coordination meeting with CBOs is also aimed at sharing best practices, know their challenges and receive recommendations from them , stressing that as programme officer she visits them in their various communities to be abreast with what they were doing in the field .
In his welcome address, the State chairman of ACOMIN, Pastor Greg Sifo reminded the CBOs that the project was designed to impact lives in the community level.
Pastor Sifo , however, urged them to be committed to their tasks , saying that gesture was a service to humanity.
In their separate goodwill messages, the State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP) Manager, Dr.(Mrs.) Julie Aniah, the State Coordinator for Tuberculosis Network, Mr. Chiedozie Onyeukwu, the State NEPWHAN Coordinator, Mr. Christopher Ogberetitinor and the State AIDS and STDs Control Programme (SASCAP) Coordinator, Dr. Linda Enyi, represented by an officer from SASCAP Mr. Franklin Osanebi appreciated ACOMIN for the collaboration and told the CBOs that the more commitment they put in their assignment the better they would be .
Dr.(Mrs.) Aniah informed the CBOs that in the first quarter of next year, the state would distribute nets to rural communities just as SASCAP representative explained that the state was focusing more in testing pregnant women to ensure the reduction of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS.
