The need for the Community Based Organisations (CBOs) implementing a civil society organization on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) project in Delta State to always interface and synergize with the leadership of the local government to achieve positive impact in the intervention in community's public health facilities has been brought to the fore.
The Director, Partnership and Policy Coordination, State Action on Control of AIDS (SACA) , Mrs. Grace Sifo stated this in Asaba during the October monthly coordination meeting of the ATM/ACOMIN under C19RM RSSH project , which was anchored by the State Programme Officer, Juliet Obiajulu.
She said that SACA was satisfied with the achievements of ACOMIN in the public health facilities in the state, adding that SACA was ready to continue to partnering with ACOMIN so as to make the work easy.
Mrs. Sifo , however, asserted that it was important and beneficial to integrate all health diseases in every health talk or outreach.
Earlier, the State Malaria Programme Manager, Ministry of Health, Dr. (Mrs) Julie Aniah said that the support received by the Ministry from ACOMIN was overwhelming and could not be quantified and called on other relevant organizations to emulate ACOMIN to improve the services in the health sector.
Dr. Mrs. Aniah told the CBOs that the monthly coordination meeting was designed to equip them with relevant information that would guide them to deliver on their responsibility effectively.
In their various goodwill messages, the Vice Chairman of Ndokwa West, Chinwe Margret Anowu , the State Epistemologist , Dr. Mildred Okowa, represented by the Health Promotion Officer, Annabel Edheki and the State Coordinator of NEPWHAN, Mr. Christopher Ogberetitinor commended the CBOs for their proactive measures in improving the health system in the state.
The State Epidemiologist explained that 7 cases of monkey pox had been detected in the state, assuring that the state government had taken drastic measures to contain the spread of the disease .
She said that they had gone to the various communities where the cases had been recorded to sensitize them on symptoms of the disease and how to avoid the spread.
The State Chairman of ACOMIN , Pastor Greg Sifo told the CBOs to consistently show positive attitude towards the realization of the objective of the project and reminded them that their attitude could play a vital role in determining the success of the project .
Pastor Sifo implored the CBOs to identify major stakeholders in the community that would serve as gatekeepers , emphasizing the need for them to effectively key into the project so as to have more community participation and ownership.
